The minister, Martin Ferguson, arrived in the capital Dili on Thursday for a two-day visit.
His office said Ferguson would be in "high-level discussions" with Timor-Leste President Taur Matan Ruak, parliamentary leaders, and the Minister for Petroleum and Mineral Resources Alfredo Pires.
At the forefront of discussions will be Australia and Timor-Leste’s "unique and co-operative joint management of oil and gas resources" in the shared zone in the Timor Sea and the development of the Greater Sunrise fields.
