Forecaster ImpactWeather is predicting there will be 10 named storms this hurricane season, which officially starts 1 June.
Of those 10 storms, ImpactWeather predicts five of them will develop into hurricanes and two will develop into major storms that reach Category 3 or higher, ImpactWeather meteorologist Chris Hebert said during a press conference at the OTC conference in Houston.
By comparison, the last two years La Nina conditions in the Pacific resulted in 19 named storms during the season, seven of which gained enough strength to become hurricanes.
