Cheniere is building the Sabine Pass LNG plant in Louisiana, which will be the first export facility to operate in the US in decades. The Houston-based company has formally sanctioned construction of the first four trains at Sabine Pass, each with a nominal production capacity of 4.5 million tonnes per annum. Trains five and six are awaiting final approval.

Sabine Pass is the first in a long line of proposed LNG projects that aim to take advantage of cheap US gas prices to capitalise on massive demand abroad, where prices are several times higher than benchmark Henry Hub.
