The sixth-generation, GVA 7500 design semisub was constructed by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering in South Korea and delivered to Mexico earlier this year.
Upstream reported recently that Pemex planned to use the rig to drill an appraisal well at the Piklis discovery.
For its part, Grupo R said the rig is moored in water depths of 1783 metres to drill that outpost well in the natural gas-prone Catemaco foldbelt.
