The well, which lies north-west of the Elevala gas and condensate discovery in PNG’s Western Province, was spudded in late August by the drilling rig Parker Rig 226.
Last week, Horizon said a core sample taken during drilling of the well had recorded “elevated gas readings” over the main objective Elevala sandstone.
Since then, elevated gas readings were also encountered as the well was drilled through the secondary target, the Toro formation, to a total depth of 3235 metres.
