Ichthys progressing amid market uncertainty

Inpex is making huge strides at its Ichthys liquefied natural gas project in Australia from which 5.7 million tonnes per annum will be shipped to the operator's native Japan - and future expansion is already being considered - but this is against a backdrop of future uncertainty in the global LNG market, according to chief executive Toshiaki Kitamura.

The LNG volumes that will flow fromIchthys back to Japan over a 15-year contract correspond to around 7% of thecountry's total LNG import in 2013

Work is under way on the project'smajor components including the central processing facility, gas exportpipeline, LNG plant module, and Blaydin Point onshore facilities.

"Later this year we areplanning to commence installation on the plant site of pre-fabricated LNG plantmodules.
