That brings the total collected from the drilling fee imposed on Marcellus shale explorers to more than $630 million over the three years it has been in effect.

It is in addition to the $2.1 billion in state tax revenue generated by the industry since the shale boom got going in 2008.

“This new stream of revenue is having a positive and real impact in communities with shale development as well as those without active Marcellus production," Marcellus Shale Coalition president Dave Spigelmyer said in a statement.
