The company announced last week that drilling of the well had encountered a 25-metre oil column in the Eocene reservoirs.
In a statement on Thursday, Karoon said pressure data had confirmed the oil column and two out of 10 reservoir fluid samples recovered to surface had confirmed the oil at 42 degrees API.
In addition, an analysis of petrophysical and oil sampling flow and pressure data had indicated that the Eocene reservoir seen in the well was of good quality and had the potential to flow at commercial rates.
