The assignment agreement grants Kilimanjaro future oil and mineral rights to blocks in the south, central and north of Cabinda. The company had also previously received rights to offshore and north-east blocks in Cabinda.
These rights are fully vested upon international recognition of Cabinda’s government, Kilimanjaro said. However, control of the countryside in the region has been contested between Cabinda’a armed forces and the Angolan army for about 38 years and Angola’s state-owned Sonangol also claims the concession rights to the blocks.
