The Perth-based explorer said key pilot production equipment has arrived on site, while the drilling and completions rig has been contracted to mobilise by the end of this month.
Pilot production drilling is expected to be completed by February, with the company aiming to increase resources and book its first reserves in the first quarter of 2013.
The Amersfoort project lies about 250 kilometres east of Johannesburg in Mpumalanga, which is known to be a highly prospective area for coalbed methane in South Africa.
