The Australian explorer, together with project partner Armour Energy, is planning to drill the well in permit PEP 166 to a depth of about 1200 to 1500 metres.
The Yallourn Power-1 well is aiming to confirm the presence and thickness of the Rintouls Creek formation - a very rich carbonaceous sequence of shales, coals, siltstones and sandstones that was seen to contain oil in the previously-drilled Yallourn North 1A well on the northern edge of the Gippsland basin.
