Semi-submersible Transocean Barents found an oil-bearing sand channel of Triassic age in the targeted Kobbe formation with the 7222/11-2 probe drilled in Det Norske-operated production licence 659 in the frontier Arctic region, according to the company.
Although the well established the presence of moveable hydrocarbons, a mini drill stem test carried out at the hole proved poor reservoir properties.
“Based on preliminary analysis, Det Norske is of the opinion that the volumes proven in this well, as of today, are insufficient to justify a field development,” the operator said in a statement.
