A government directive demanding power from shore for new fields off Norway has become a bone of contention for partners including Lundin in the Statoil-led Johan Sverdrup project as an area-wide electrification solution for Utsira High fields would substantially raise costs for the latter scheme.
Lundin chief executive Ashley Heppenstall said though it is sticking to installation of gas-fired turbines on the platform currently under construction for Edvard Grieg, while remaining open to the option of power from shore for the field if this was required at a later date by the authorities.
