The incident occurred during pressure testing of the BOP as the ultra-harsh environment rig was being prepared for mobilisation after drilling an unsuccessful exploration well on the Ulvetanna prospect in about 51 metres of water in Det Norske-operated Production Licence 356 off Norway.

The aft door assembly on the lower pipe ram was blown off the BOP body at 325 bar of pressure during pressure-testing work being carried out by Maersk, though no one was hurt in the incident, according to a report from Det Norske to Norway’s Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA).

The
