The Hagar Qim 1 well, originally due to be drilled by the end of last year, will be sunk by deep-water semi-submersible Noble Paul Romano that is currently undergoing final inspection and certification tests in Valletta harbour on the Mediterranean island.
The probe will be the first to be drilled in Area 4, operated by Genel Energy on 75% with MOG holding the remainder, and is targeting prospective proven and probable resources of 87 million barrels of oil in Lower Eocene and Paleocene reservoirs, with estimated oil in place of 345 million barrels.
