The Mandarim well, or 4-MLS-105D-RJS, came across an oil column of about 100 metres, with tests indicating oil of 13 to 16 degrees API.
It was drilled 126 kilometres off the coast of Rio de Janeiro in 1874 metres of water, with oil found about 2965 metres down.
The company plans reservoir productivity tests this year, with startup through the existing P-56 platform targeted for 2014.
