The explorer notified NOC as operator of the concession and holder of first refusal on the 16.3% stake, two Libyan oil officials told Dow Jones Newswires.
One of the officials speculated that such a divestment could fetch $2 billion to $3 billion.
A spokesman for the explorer declined to comment to the wire service other than to say “we don’t comment on rumours”.
