The Kazakhstan-focused explorer said on Wednesday it had completed drilling the SAGW-14 probe to a depth of 1423 metres in the Sagiz West field, but did not encounter sufficient hydrocarbons to be commercial.
The well will now be plugged and abandoned, with the results to be analysed and integrated into the geotechnical evaluation of the field, Max said.
The rig used to drill the well, Zhanros ZJ-30, will now move to drill SAGW-9, one of seven remaining wells in the Sagiz West appraisal programme.
