American Energy Woodford, a unit of McClendon's American Energy Partners, said on Monday that it had raised $500 million in equity commitments and secured another $180 million in bank loans to pursue development of the combination play in north-central Oklahoma that the company has dubbed the "CNOW play".
McClendon, who was ousted as the chief executive of Chesapeake Energy, formed American Energy Partners in April last year "to capitalise on opportunities available in unconventional resource plays onshore in the US".
