The Hagana-1 well is a large gas target that spudded in the Gulf of Papua on 7 June using the semi-submersible Stena Clyde.
Oil Search said log data indicated the primary objective Pleistocene sand was 35 metres thick and of good reservoir quality, but appears to be water bearing.
Drilling is continuing toward the secondary, Pliocene-age target, at a depth of 3300 metres.
