AWE revealed on Tuesday it had been unableto drill past an obstruction in the lower portion of the first sidetrack.
This means the company will now need todrill a second sidetrack, which will kick off from a measured depth of 3587metres and be drilled to a total depth of 5361 metres.
AWE struck problems with the drilling ofthe Pateke well last monthwhen mechanical drill string difficulties forced thebottom part of the hole to be abandoned.
