The government is basking in the success of its first offshore licensing round, the results of which were released earlier this week, with 10 deep-water and 10 shallow-water blocks awarded from the 19 deep-water and 11 shallow-water areas offered.

Industry heavyweights including Shell, Statoil, Eni, ConocoPhillips, Total, BG Group, Reliance Industries and Woodside were among the winners.

Than Tun, the director of offshore exploration at Myanma Oil and Gas Enterprise (MOGE), said at OTC Asia in Kuala Lumpur that the government will soon begin negotiations for production sharing contracts with the permit recipients.
