The tender was launched by Energy &Resources Minister Simon Bridges on Wednesday and covers 405,000 squarekilometres, 1.5 times New Zealand’s land size.
The areas open for bidding include threeonshore release areas in the East Coast basin, Taranaki basin and West Coastbasin.
The offshore release includes areas in theRegina-Northland basin, Taranaki basin, New Caledonia basin, Pegasus-East Coastbasin and Great South-Canterbury basin.
It is the first time acreage in the NewCaledonia basin has been put on offer in the annual release, with the area up for tender covering49,000 square kilometres off the west coast of New Zealand’s North Island.
