The Canadian-listed explorer used the Rowan jack-up Gorilla III to drill the Maestro 1 well into the Lower Cretaceous to about 5300 feet, stopping shallower than planned.
There were hydrocarbon shows but wireline logging suggested the reservoirs would not flow at commercial rates.
The well was drilled on Block 2(ab) where Niko hoped to intersect the prolific Angostura sandstone that has produced the Angostura field to the east of the Maestro prospect.
Pre-drill
