The new rules, which will take effect immediately and apply to all new drilling permits in the state and possibly to existing undrilled permits, will require all companies drilling within three miles of a known fault or area of seismic activity greater than magnitude-2.0 to install sensitive seismic monitors.
Any seismic event detected by those monitors would halt drilling, and if investigations find that fracking is the likely cause, "all well completion operations will be suspended".
