The Calgary-based explorer said that the AAS-1 probe, spud in June, encountered oil shows in the Cretaceous, lower Jurassic and Triassic.
Oryx Petroleum chief executive Henry Legarre said that the explorerwould now “proceed with further analysis and appraisal to determine the sizeand quality of the discovery as well as its potential commerciality”.
The Sakson Hilong 10 rig drilled the probe to a total depth of 3039metres in the uppermost Triassic in early September, when drilling wassuspended before the original total depth of 3700 metres due to heavy losses ofdrilling fluids causing the bottom hole assembly to become stuck.
