The Ban-1 well targeting the Banan prospect struck hydrocarbons in Cretaceous, Upper and Lower Jurassic, and Triassic formations, which are believed to have similar reservoir properties to the earlier Demir Dagh discovery in the same licence.
The probe drilled by rig KS Discoverer 1 was targeting a total depth of 4153 metres in the Kurra Chine formation but was plugged back to 3400 metres after a pressure kick at a depth of about 4000 metres.
