Federal Resources & Energy Minister Martin Ferguson said on Thursday the Commonwealth Government was continuing with its commitment to help mining giant Rio Tinto convert its diesel-run Gove refinery to gas and keep it open for the next 10 years.
The Gove refinery, located in Nhulunbuy on the Northern Territory’s Gove Peninsula, is operated by Rio Tinto subsidiary Pacific Aluminium and has been running at a loss due to high fuel prices, weak alumina prices and the strong Australian dollar.
