Speaking at the launch of a report by the Committee for Economic Development of Australia (CEDA) on Australia’s energy options, Ferguson said the government had locked in A$34 million for the 2013 financial year and A$40 million per year for the following two years to fund a range of activities at the national geoscientific research agency, Geoscience Australia (GA).

“This includes a $26 million per annum commitment to GA’s pre-competitive data work to improve its knowledge of Australia’s resource base and open up opportunities for new resource projects,” he said, adding that funds would also go towards groundwater modeling capabilities and natural disaster planning.
