Targets include conventional oil and gas plays plus shale gas and work programme bids for these tracts close on 23 October.
Haworth said that the Canning basin has a mix of plays and is a very interesting area.
However, he conceded: "The most prospective areas in the Canning basin have been taken but there are farm-in opportunities available."
Northern Territory in May will release the first round of acreage under legislation amended as of 1 January that allows multiple applications to be made for the same vacant onshore blocks.
