The representatives of the International Transport Workers’ Federation and the Maritime Union of Australia are seeking a meeting with the oil major to discuss their campaign.
The unions argue they are unfairly blamed for cost blowouts and delays on projects like Chevron’s Gorgon liquefied natural gas project.
ITF President and MUA national secretary Paddy Crumlin said that the groups were visiting the US because their attempts within Australia to establish labour relations with the company to reach a long-term employment deal but that “every approach we’ve made to Chevron has been rejected”.
