The unit of the Brazilian state oil giant said the Estancia Campos X-1 well was drilled to 3255 metres in the concession about 140 kilometres northeast of the city of Rio Gallegos.
The probe found oil in the Springhill formation. Preliminary results indicated the discovery was of 57 degrees API, with estimated reserves of 11 million barrels of oil equivalent.
The Puesto Peter concession has another discovery to its name: A now-producing find in the south-central area of the block encountered gas at 1800 metres in the Magallanes formation.
