The Brazilian state oil giant and its partners will, however, return to the Carcara appraisal well with a new two-stage strategy, compatriot Queiroz Galvao Exploration & Production (QGEP) said on Thursday.
Petrobras pressed ahead with the Carcara-2 well in BM-S-8 block on 14 December, using Brazilian contractor Odebrecht's drillship Norbe VIII.
QGEP, which has a 10% share in the well that is operated by Petrobras on 66%, said unspecified "operational issues" faced during drilling had led to an abandonment.
