The Brazilian state oil company said its 1-RJS-704 well was drilled to a total depth of 6004 metres and found oil of 29 degrees API.
The probe was conducted 206 kilometres off Rio de Janeiro in 2009 metres of water.
"After drilling was finished, a formation test was performed, which found excellent productivity of good-quality oil-bearing reservoirs, without the presence of CO2 or H2S," the company added in a statement.
