Modec and Brazilian project partner Schahin Engenharia will be asked to provide an FPSO with capacity for 100,000 barrels per day of crude and 5 million cubic metres per day of gas under a 20-year charter.
The letter of intent, announced during OTC Brasil, also helps dispel lingering doubts about the economic viability of the Carioca project and sends a clear signal that a contractual award on the crucial riser system for Carioca is close.
