The company stated on Monday that one of two exploration wells drilled into its Kuang North field in Block SK316 had hit a 636-metre gas column, with preliminary assessments suggesting a net resource of 2.3 trillion cubic feet of gas-in-place for the field.
It said unlike other previous carbonate gas discoveries, the gas in the Kuang North-2 well was found in the older carbonate section, thus opening up a “new exploration play-type with substantial hydrocarbon potential in the older carbonate reservoirs offshore Sarawak”.
