The state-led Brazilian giant has struggled with a short-term shortage of pipelay support vessels (PLSVs) to support its offshore construction boom as it waits for newbuild units it has ordered.
The high-capacity SX121-design Polar Onyx will help meet the need, with OOG contracting the vessel for a yearlong gig starting in May 2014. Financial details were not disclosed.
Due for delivery in 2014, the newbuild will install and recover flexible risers, flowlines and umbilicals in water depths up to 2200 metres.
