On Thursday, joint venture partner Rockhopper Exploration announced the decision in a release to the London Stock Exchange.
Premier recommended the tension leg platform option as the most suitable way of developing the Sea Lion project.
Rockhopper Exploration chief executive Sam Moody said he agreed with that recommendation.
