The nation's prolific LNG industry requires strong regulatory reform to remain competitive against the growing markets in the US and East Africa, according to peak Australian body Australian Petroleum Production & Exploration Association (APPEA).
Association director of economics Damian Dwyer said the country needed to reform its Fair Work Act and allow the flow of overseas workers to maintain productivity.
"As these projects move into production, [they] require more skilled workers," Dwyer said at the Australasian Oil & Gas conference in Perth on Thursday.
