A pilot deal signed in December gave Chevron a four-month period to negotiate 50% participation in the Loma de la Lata Norte and Loma Campana areas, which cover an area of 290 square kilometres, YPF said in a securities filing.
The deal was due to be wrapped up already but Chevron has hit a roadblock in the form of an asset freeze of up to $19 billion leveled in connection with a pollution settlement in Ecuador.
