The Spanish giant on Thursday posted net income of €760 million ($966.2 million) in the three months to September, 36% higher than the year-ago period.

Meanwhile, its net income for the first nine months of 2012 was €1.796 billion, a drop of 5.5% from the year-ago period despite the YPF loss.

"Efficient management has allowed Repsol to gradually consolidate the strength of the businesses, particularly after the illegal expropriation of YPF," the company said in a statement.

Repsol
