The Koi-2 probe is being drilled using the jack-up rig Bohai-8 in the offshore area of the Salawati Kepala Burung production sharing contract.
The well has been designed to appraise the Koi-1 discovery, which was drilled in 2000 and flowed 980 barrels per day of oil and 2.7 million cubic feet per day of gas via a drillstem test from the Miocene Kais limestone.
