MILAN-based Saipem is in pole position to land a multi-billion dollar contract to provide Total with two floating production, storage and offloading vessels for its Kaombo project off Angola, although a final award has yet to be confirmed.
Multiple well-placed sources said state-owned Sonangol is in favour of Saipem’s bid over that submitted by Tokyo-headquar- tered Modec, but all were reluc- tant to make a final call on the eventual contract winner, with Sonangol having previously had eleventh hour changes of mind on such awards.
