The US’ Department of Energy is working with international oil companies to develop low-cost floating production systems for ultra-deepwater field developments in the US Gulf under the so-called Research Partnership to Secure Energy for America programme.

The Norwegian floater technology player is proposing an adapted Sevan 1000 design, with storage capacity of 1 million barrels, with free hanging steel risers as an alternative to flexible pipe to transport the well stream of oil, gas and produced water from the seabed to the cylindrical floating production, storage and offloading vessel.
