Commercial production from the Shaikan field commenced in mid-July after the Kurdistan Regional Government’s Ministry of Natural Resources approved the field development plan in June.

By early September, it was producing from the first production facility at a rate of 12,400 barrels per day, Gulf Keystone stated in its half yearly report last month.

However, local authorities ordered the temporary suspension of production on 4 September, for reasons that were supposedly "not connected with the company".
