Shell was relatively quiet in the Central Gulf Lease Sale 231 on Wednesday, submitting just four apparent high bids, the fewest of any of the 10 biggest spenders on the day.
The company submitted just eight total bids in the round, apparently falling short on the other four. Spokeswoman Kayla Macke said Shell "exposed" about $100 million in those eight bids.
