Privately held Freeport plans a three-train facility with a total production capacity of 13.2 million tonnes per year (mtpa) that could begin operation as soon as late 2015.

A Shell representative confirmed that the Anglo-Dutch supermajor was in formal talks to export gas from Freeport.

“We can confirm that Shell executed a heads of agreement with Freeport LNG to establish an exclusive framework for Shell’s potential involvement in future liquefaction trains at the existing Freeport site,” spokeswoman Kayla Macke told Upstream.
