The highly anticipated Palta-1 well, in permit WA-384-P in the southern Exmouth sub-basin, was spudded on Sunday by the semi-submersible rig Noble Clyde Boudreaux.

The well will be drilled to a possible total depth of more than 5000 metres, in water depths of about 1300 metres. Drilling is expected to take between 60 and 90 days.

Palta-1 is Shell’s final work programme obligation for the extended sixth year of the permit’s term (ending in August next year).
