Sonde said it did not expect Viking to be able to produce the payment for the Joint Oil block, which covers 768,000 acres and spans the maritime borders of Tunisia and Libya.
Sonde has a 100% working interest under a production-sharing contract with Joint Oil, which is owned 50-50 by the governments of Libya and Tunisia.
The block contains part of the Zarat discovery with five additional exploration prospects identified, according to Sonde.
