The wildcat lies in production licence 551, close to the giant Troll gas field. Spring has secured the semi-submersible rig Transocean Barents for the job, with an expected spud date some time between May and October.
The well has gross potential of 172 million barrels of oil equivalent and a 35% chance of success, Spring Energy chief executive officer Roar Tessem said at the Pareto offshore conference in Oslo.
